The 2012 NFL Scout Combine
When: Wednesday, Feb. 22-Tuesday, Feb. 28
Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana
Who: Virtually the entire coaching and scouting staffs from every NFL team and about 330 draft-eligible football players. Oh, and something around 750 members of the media.
NFL prospects from all over the country will gather in Indy to meet with NFL coaches from all 32 NFL teams. The players will run and jump in order to compile what are called the measurables. That part of the combine proceedings will be televised on the NFL Network and will be what all of the buzz is about.
But in many ways that will be the least important part of the proceeding this week.
The combine will be the first chance that most coaches will get to talk to players that they and their teams GMs, scouts, and other player personnel staff members have been studying for months on film. The interview process is one aspect of the combine that occurs behind closed doors and will go a long way towards a team deciding if they will even have a given player on its draft board.
And perhaps the most important work will be done not by the coaches but by the teams medical staff. The will poke and prod the prospects to see if they have recovered from past injuries or to see if they possibly have any injury issues that were previously unknown. It is one thing to make a misjudgment of a players talent. It is quite another to invest a draft pick in a player who is damaged goods.
The players also will meet with the NFL media and that is where the majority of what you read about here will come from. And a nice rumor always pops up at some point during the combine and well be there to bring that to you as well.
Check back here all week long for the latest.
