In almost two years of dealing with Mike Shanahan, the one thing that Ive learned for certain is that you should watch what he does, not listen to what he says.Even though the Redskins have scored just 11 points in their past two games and only three while the outcome of a game was even remotely in doubt, Shanahan has expressed confidence in quarterback John Beck. He has pointed out that Beck is working with a unit that was ravaged by injuries and is playing some younger players. The coach also said that he likes the progress he has seen from Beck from week to week and that hes confident that he can continue to improve. However, we have a report from the Washington Post that suggests that Beck may not be on firm ground as the teams starter. Rex Grossman has been splitting first-team reps with Beck this week.Normally the starting quarterback will get virtually all of the practice snaps during the week. The backup might run a few token plays if any at all. This is because those reps are in limited supply and the more the starter gets the better. So a decision to give a substantial number of practice reps to Grossman (the story did not specify what percentage of snaps Grossman got, only that they were split) was not done to try to build Rexs cardiovascular endurance. It doesnt mean that he will play on Sunday against the Dolphins. But it does indicate that Mike and Kyle Shanahan may not have unlimited patience when it comes to Beck generating some offense.Beck will start against the Dolphins, we know that. But dont be surprised if the big news is who finishes at quarterback.
Are the Redskins preparing Plan B at QB?
