I wouldn't call this one a complete game victory, but it had more thanenough positive moments for the Caps to pick up another two points. It's great to check the standings and see Washington prominentlydisplayed on top of the division, the conference, and how about this, the entire league!

The first period was littered with sloppy plays onboth sides. The Caps caught a break when a couple of great scoringchances for Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis went for naught. The Caps had their own issues in the first frame as their power playsputtered on three quick man advantages.

But as the trends wouldindicate DC came on strong in period number two. They've now earned avictory in 12 straight meetings with the Lightning and this evening'sdecision gives them wins in their last six overall.

Alex Semin mad aperfect pass to Alexander Ovechkin for his first goal. The great eightshowed no signs of any lingering knee pain from his collision a weekago in Raleigh.

Eric Fehr proved he has a good nose for the net shortlyafter Ovie's strike. He went to the right spot, drove the net hard, andwas rewarded. All the little things Washington wasn't doing properly inthe first period, turned back in their favor in period two.

Ovechkin'ssecond goal of the night came after Tomas Fleischmann was robbed by thegoal post. The rebound came right to Alex, who got just enough on hisshot to have it inch across the goal line.

Semin's stick handlingtricks tonight were pretty outrageous. He has the ability to contorthis body and most importantly his hands and wrists to make plays thatmost people have no business making.

I think Tampa Bay has improvedfrom last year. The Caps did a nice job of slowing down Stamkos,Malone, and St. Louis. That is not easy to do and the whole teamdeserves credit for the awareness they showed whenever those guys wereon the ice.

Last but not least, Semyon Varlamov is rolling right now.He is dripping with confidence. His teammates believe in him and heappears to be more comfortable with every game. We should tell you hehas a true winner's attitude. He looks like a school boy, but trust me,he burns to be the best and to win, and he is doing that a lot.
