When they set their minds to it there's no stopping this offensive machine. Bruce Boudreau tells us that there's no need for him to rally the troops when Alex Ovechkin is injured or suspended. With the MVP on the sideline the Caps have won seven of nine games this year, and tonight's game was another convincing performance inside the Southeast division.Washington mopped up the Panthers, scoring six times in the first two periods, five of them against one of the stingiest goalies in the league. Tomas Vokoun was no match for the Capitals all season long. Tonight he was gone from the game in only 35 minutes. I felt like the Caps could have scored a half dozen goals in the first period alone. Vokoun scrambled to make some incredible saves, but it was not going to be his night.Brendan Morrison and Brooks Laich led the way in this game. Morrison posted great point totals against the Panthers in Washington's six-game sweep, adding a goal and two
assists in this one. Laich tallied twice from the top of the crease to give himself 24 in a year, the best he's ever racked up in a single season. The power play delivered a pair of goals and always seems to be reliable inside the Southeast division. DC's dominance of the division is clearly evident and the way they mauled the Panthers this year is exhibit one.Shaone Morrisonn chipped in a pair of assists and continues to throw his weight around. He wants to be in playoff mode right now. He says he wants the other team's top players to know it's going to be a bumpy road for them.

I thought that Jason Chimera and Eric Fehr performed very well during a game in which everyone made an impact. Chimera's speed backs off defenders and Fehr's quick release is throwing goalies timing off kilter. At the end of the line Jose Theodore continues to look very strong. In the first half of the game Florida had its share of opportunities to match the Caps, but Theodore squashed any hope they might have. The Panthers didn't have much left in the tank in the third period. It was a rough night for their playoff quest as Boston picked up a valuable two points.DC rolls into Raleigh Thursday. We'll have that one for you in HD on CSN.
