By Ryan OHalloranA simple response is needed to react to Tampa Bays decision to hire Rutgers coach Greg Schaino to replace Raheem Morris:Huh?And four more words as a follow up:It probably wont work.As Redskins fans know, going to the college well to turn around a franchise, coaches who make the transition from college to the NFL often fail. The Danny hired Steve Spurrier before the 2002 season and The Visor lasted two years (12-20 record).Thats common. Heres a look at some of the college-to-NFL coaches:Rich Brooks (Oregon to St. Louis) 13-19 with Rams.Pete Carroll (USC to Seattle) 47-49 combined with New EnglandSeattle. Led Seahawks to division title in 2010.Tom Coughlin (Boston College to Jacksonville) was the expansion Jaguars first coach and had them in the AFC title game in Year 2. Is 142-114 combined with JagsGiants.Dennis Erickson (University of Miami to Seattle and Oregon State to San Francisco) 40-56 combined with Seahawks49ers.Butch Davis (University of Miami to Cleveland) 24-34 with Browns, one playoff appearance.Dennis Green (Stanford to Minnesota) 113-94 with Vikings and two pathetic NFC title defeats.Jim Harbaugh (Stanford to San Francisco) 13-3 with 49ers, one playoff appearance.Mike Riley (Oregon State to San Diego) 14-34 with Chargers. Back with Oregon State.Bobby Ross (Georgia Tech to San DiegoDetroit) 74-63 with ChargersLions, including Super Bowl appearance with San Diego.Nick Saban (LSU to Dolphins to Alabama) 15-13 with Miami.Steve Spurrier (Florida to Redskins) 12-20 with Washington. The overview: Schaino is in for a tough road.Contact OHalloran at rohalloran@comcastsportsnet.com
