Embattled Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau gave his players their scheduled day off on Sunday and will gather them for practice Monday at 11 a.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
The Caps have lost two in a row and six of their last eight games and will try to turn things around Tuesday night at home against the St. Louis Blues.
The Capitals have continued a disturbing trend of allowing their opponents to score shortly after theyve climbed back into games.
It happened against the Rangers on Friday when they battled back from a 3-0 deficit to within 3-2, then allowed a quick goal to fall back again. And it happened again against the Sabres when they Jason Chimeras penalty shot goal brought them to within 2-1, only to allow a goal just 27 seconds later.
Chimera's goal was his team-high ninth goal of the season. He is now one goal away from matching his season high last year.
Meanwhile, captain Alex Ovechkin matched his career-worst with a minus-4. The last time that happened was back on Nov. 20, 2008. His linemates werent much better. Nicklas Backstrom was a minus-4 and Troy Brouwer was a minus-3.
