All-Star defenseman Mike Green skated for the first time since rolling his right ankle on Oct. 22 and said hell need just one full practice to get back into the lineup, meaning his return could come as early as Friday night in Carolina.
It felt good, Green said. Today was a good day for me. I finally got back out there and hopefully Ill be back soon.
Green is expected to miss his third straight game tonight when the Capitals face off against the Anaheim Ducks at 7:30 p.m.
One good practice and Ill be fine, he said. I dont want to be bag skating too long. Its all about the speed of the game and the quicker I can get in that situation the better Ill be.
Green was injured with 2:57 remaining in the first period of the Capitals 7-1 win over the Red Wings when he took a puck to the face and fell awkwardly. He continued playing and matched a career high with four points, but when he took his right skate off it swelled to the point where he couldnt put it back on.
I got hit in the face, I went down awkward on my foot and that was that, he said. I just kind of twisted it.
Green said the toughest part about being injured is watching games on TV.
You want to be out there, he said, but at the same time you can see whats going on and youre more aware of what needs to be fixed.
