It's all 'win and you're in' in Dale Hunter's world. Or at least, come really close to a win and you're in. Whatever. According to reports from the Caps morning skate, it looks like Michal Neuvirth will get his third consecutive start in net tonight as the Caps take on the Predators.
Neuvirth won a start last week after another Tomas Vokoun meltdown in which he allowed four goals on 21 shots before getting yanked for his 23-year-old back up.
Neuvirth went on to blank the Jets two nights later on their own home ice in a tight 1-0 Caps victory. After allowing a flukey puck to take him by surprise in the first period, the Capitals were unable to get ahead of the Avs on Saturday. Alexander Semin got one back for him but less than a minute later a heavily screened Neuvirth let the game-winner through and the Caps fell 2-1.
It wasn't a win, but a .955 save percentage and averaging just one goal against over his last three appearances was enough for Dale Hunter to put him in tonight. The nod is exactly what Neuvirth, who's struggled in his scattered starts this season, needs to get into a rhythm and begin to play like the number one goalie he was last year for the Caps.
