It looks like 21 of the 22 players who skated their lungs out on Wednesday were back on the ice for practice Thursday at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Center Marcus Johansson did not participate in the practice. According to a Capitals spokesman he missed for a maintenance day and will make the trip to Newark for Friday nights game against the New Jersey Devils.

Meanwhile, defenseman Mike Green participated in the full workout, one day after holding up well enough to compete in 2-on-2 drills even after coach Bruce Boudreau gave him the option of opting out.

Green has missed six games with a sprained right ankle and took regular shifts at practice with Roman Hamrlik. Karl Alzner took shifts with Dennis Wideman and John Erskine took shifts with John Carlson

If those combinations hold up, Jeff Schultz could be the odd-man out if Green returns to the lineup Friday night against the Devils.

With Johansson out of practice, coach Bruce Boudreau juggled three of his four lines at Thursdays practice.

Mathieu Perreault was centering a top line with wingers Alex Ovechkin and Troy Brouwer; Nicklas Backstrom was between Brooks Laich and Alex Semin; and Cody Eakin was centering a third line between Jason Chimera and Joel Ward. The fourth line of Jeff Halpern between Matt Hendricks and Mike Knuble remained unchanged.

Jay Beagle (concussion) also skated on his own before practice and according to Boudreau will skate every other day until he is cleared for contact.
