According to a blog in The Washington Post, Steve A. Garban, chairman of Penn States Board of Trustees, contacted Virginia Coach Mike London concerning Penn State's now vacant head coaching position. According to the report the contact was made before the board announced that Joe Paterno would not finish the season as the Nittany Lions' head coach.
Through a UVA spokesperson, London confirmed to Comcast SportsNet that there had been no contact between he and Penn State. London said the rumors regarding any contact were "simply not true" and that he never received a phone call or had any conversations with Penn State.
The Post report cites an anonymous source close to the situation in saying that London had no interest in leaving Virginia and declined the overture. Furthermore, the person said, London would prefer to sign an extension to remain with the Cavaliers beyond the terms of his current five-year contract, which expires Dec. 7, 2014.
