The Week 11 edition of Redskins Up-Downs after their sixth consecutive loss, a 27-24 overtime decision to Dallas:UP
Red zone offenseLast week in Miami, the Redskins were unable to punch it in from the Dolphins 5-yard line after a turnover. Things went much better Sunday against Dallas. Three trips inside the 20 and three touchdowns. The TDs were a Rex Grossman 4-yard keeper and his TD throws of 16 and 4 yards to Jabar Gaffney and Donte Stallworth, respectively.DOWN
Third down defenseThe Redskins were fifth in the league entering the Miami game, but have taken a nose-dive since. Dallas was 8-of-17 on third down and the conversions included third-and-8 (Dez Bryant 22-yard TD), third-and-12 (17 yards to Jesse Holley), third-and-6 (7 yards to DeMarco Murray), third-and-8 (12 yards to Kevin Ogletree), third-and-8 (59-yard TD to Jason Witten) and in overtime, third-and-15 (26 yards to Dez Bryant).UP
Brandon Banks on returnsDormant for most of the season because of the new kickoff rule and questionable decision making, Banks finally got untracked with a 32.3-yard average on punt returns (including a career-best 55-yard return). Big returns plus short fields equal touchdowns.DOWN
Graham Gano on field goalsGano was off target from 49 and 52 yards and now has eight misses for the year (16-of-24). Last year, he missed 11 kicks.UP
Jabar Gaffney and Donte StallworthGaffney caught seven passes for 115 yards (his fifth career 100-yard game) and a touchdown; Stallworth, re-signed last Tuesday, had four catches for 51 yards, including a 4-yard TD to force overtime. Somebody amongst the receivers has to step up and it was the two graybeards that did it Sunday.DOWN
The running gameEven in a close game, the Redskins didnt get anything done. Just 24 rushes for 60 yards. It continues to be a mystery why Ryan Torain gets any playing time he had five rushes for four yards.UP
Run defenseDeMarco Murray entered with three games of at least 130 yards in the last four weeks. But the Redskins bottled him up25 rushes for 73 yards (2.9-yard average), and most impressively, no carry longer than eight yards.DOWN
Coverage busts in the secondaryTight end Jason Witten got loose for a 59-yard touchdown catch and Dez Bryant beat a double team for a 26-yard catch in overtime. Tony Romo compiled a 113.8 rating on 23-of-37 passing for 292 yards and three touchdowns (no interceptions).DOWN
Trent Williams knee injuryIt didnt even happen on an offensive snap Williams went down on Ganos 52-yard field goal miss in overtime. He and Shanahan confirmed MCL damage, which is another blow to an offensive line that is in week-to-week patchwork mode.
