CSNwashington.comSpeculation of new head coaching jobs tend not to follow coaches coming off 2-10 seasons, yet three weeks ago the words Randy Edsall and strong consideration in Jacksonville popped up on Twitter, courtesy of a former NFL scout. Over the weekend, we found out the buzz has legs.Under the heading Things I Didnt Used to Know in his Sunday blitz column, National Football Post writer Dan Pompei touched on the various current job openings in the NFL, including the one in Jacksonville. A darkhorse candidate for the Jaguars job is Maryland coach Randy Edsall. It may be tough to hire a coach who is coming off a 2-10 season, but there is some sentiment in the Jaguars offices that Edsall would be a fit. Edsall coached Jaguars defensive backs for four seasons and is respected by members of the front office. He is a Tom Coughlin disciple who coached under the former Jaguars coach at three stops, and also played for him at Syracuse.Last month the Jaguars fired longtime head coach Jack Del Rio. That prompted the Dave Razzano tweet heard 'round College Park, linking Edsall and the Jaguars.Edsall previously denied any interest in the position. Coinciding with the Jaguars coaching change was the sale of the franchise to Illinois businessman Shahid Khan, who was not previously associated with the team and has grand visions for the franchises future. As for what the new owner is looking for in a new hire, Khan told the Associated Press, he doesnt want an egomaniac coaching the team. With that criteria in mind, frustrated Maryland fans and perhaps some of the former 20 players that have left the Terps program since Edsall took over might then suggest Edsalls not headed to Jacksonville after all.(ht TestudoTimes)
