Former Redskins running back Stephen Davis was arrested on Wednesday in Columbia, South Carolina for failing to pay taxes on a nightclub he owns in the area.
WCNC.com has reported that Davis was charged with operating a business without a license and three counts of writing fraudulent checks.
Since the revocation of its license by the SC Department of Revenue in July 2012, the Revenue investigation proved that PURE Lounge continued to operate and conduct sales even without a retail license, the SC Department of Revenue said in a statement.
Davis was drafted by the Redskins in the fourth round (103rd overall) in the 1996 NFL Draft. He then went on to play for the Carolina Panthers and St. Louis Rams. Over the course his 11-year NFL career Davis rushed for 8,052 yards and 65 touchdowns. He is due to appear in court on Thursday.
