Yesterday we had our first-ever Monday night Daytona 500. In September we will have our first Wednesday NFL game in over 60 years.
The NFL has announced that the champion New York Giants will host the season opener on Wednesday, Sept. 5 against an opponent to be announced. The game has been moved from its usual Thursday night time slot so as not to conflict with President Obamas speech accepting the Democratic partys presidential nomination.
The Redskins are among the possible opponents for the Giants in the opener although most are speculating that the visiting team will be the Packers.
The last NFL gamed played on a Wednesday was Sept. 22, 1948 when the Rams hosted the Lions. There is no indication whether or not that game was moved to accommodate a speech by President Truman.
