Defenseman Mike Green has not spoken to Bruce Boudreau since he was fired as coach of the Capitals on Monday and said he believes the change was necessary.
Talking with reporters after skating for the fourth time in five days, Green suggested that after four years it was time to turn the page on the Boudreau era.
Its a new chapter now, Green said. Obviously, he was a great coach and unfortunately, we werent responding in the last couple months. I think it was a necessary thing, but were definitely happy to have Dale here.
Green has not participated in a full practice since injuring his groin on Nov. 11 but has been impressed with Hunters message of accountability.
He seems like an honest guy, a strict guy, Green said, and that seems to be what we need for guys to respond properly.
Green said there is no timetable for his return to the lineup, saying he needs to continue to strengthen his groin to at least 90 percent before he returns.
Ive been out there skating and stopping and starting, he said. As far as game shape and being explosive, I still have some strengthening to do. Who knows how long that will take?
