The good news for Capitals fans is that Mike Green hit the ice in full gear today.

The bad news is that he left the ice about five minutes later and did not return.

Sidelined since Oct. 22 with a sprained right ankle, Green took a few spins around the ice and apparently felt enough pain to pull himself off the ice just before the start of practice.

The Caps also practiced without right wing Troy Brouwer, who reinjured his surgically repaired right shoulder late in Tuesday nights 5-4 overtime win over the Ducks when he was driven hard into the boards by defenseman Tony Lydman.

With Brouwer and Green gone, here are the line combos and defense pairings from today:

Alex Ovechkin-Nicklas Backstrom-Joel Ward
Cody Eakin-Marcus Johansson-Alex Semin
Mike Knuble-Brooks Laich-Jason Chimera
Mathieu Perreault-Jeff Halpern-D.J. King

Karl Alzner-Jeff Schultz
Dennis Wideman-John Erskine
Roman Hamrlik-John Carlson
