Capitals defenseman Roman Hamrlik will be out of the lineup tonight as a healthy scratch and if you believe what was reported today on Canadas French-language sports website www.RDS.ca, he could be on the trading block.
Hamrlik signed a two-year, 7 million contract with the Caps over the summer. In 55 games this season he has two goals, eight assists and is a plus-1. Capitals coach Dale Hunter was unhappy with a penalty Hamrlik took early in the Caps 5-0 loss to Carolina on Monday, a penalty that led to the Hurricanes first goal.
What could Hamrlik fetch on the trade market? If former Canadiens defenseman Hal Gill is a good barometer, he might be worth a second-round pick and prospects, which is what the Predators gave up for Gill.
Now that Mike Green has returned to the lineup, the Caps have eight healthy defensemen and likely will deal one of them before Mondays NHL trade deadline.
