First, Wizards' president Ernie Grunfeld let it slip last month that the team will likely change the uniform colors to red, white and blue next season, and now new owner Ted Leonsis writes on his blog that the organization is thinking about going back to the old name, the Washington Bullets. Coincidence or not, but the Bullets won a championship in the red, white and blue in 1978, the only title in thefranchise's history. That color scheme for the uniforms was sported in the 1980's and 90's before the name was changed to Wizards by the former owner, the late Abe Pollin, before the 1997 season.

Leonsis and the organization compiled a list together, with the help of fan suggestions, of 101 things to do in 101 days since he took over as majority owner of the team. Number 31 on the list was changing the nickname back to the Bullets, and the status of that is listed as under consideration. The list ranged from upgrades at the Wizards' Verizon Center arena, to improving the game-day experience for fans, to how the team should be built. At number 2 for example, was, "Reconnect with Gilbert Arenas," for which the status read: "Met with Gilbert and connected in person and via e-mail."

A few weeks ago, Leonsis did acknowledge that the team is in the process of changing the colors and is awaiting league approval. "I love red, white and blue," Leonsis said. "We are testing but we have not finalized. Nothing has been approved and it would be just the colors."

Well, at least for now.
