Suspended defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth is expected to report to Redskin Park early next week upon the end of his four-game ban for conduct detrimental to the team.
Per the collective bargaining agreement, Haynesworth is required to make an appearance at a teams headquarters and teammate Vonnie Holliday said the big guy will arrive for an exit physical.
I know you can be fined and there are things that could happen so the exit physical is important, Holliday said after the Redskins final practice of the year on Friday. Ive seen guys who you didnt see for the whole year and all of a sudden, they show up. Its important to show up, get that exam and sign the paper work. Sometime during the next 72 hours, hell be around.
Players could get their exit physical on Friday, allowing them to leave town as soon as the season is over Sunday night. Coach Mike Shanahan doesnt plan to speak to the team on Monday.
Haynesworth hasnt been spotted since he was suspended the maximum four games by the Redskins on Dec. 7, a day after he told general manager Bruce Allen that he was done talking to Shanahan.
Maybe hell stop by and say hello, Shanahan said. Im not sure, but hopefully he does.
Holliday, who lived in the same northern Virginia apartment building as Haynesworth, said Haynesworth is bummed out, about the suspension.
A lot of times you dont even know how important the game is until youre not doing it, not around it and thats certainly the case for him, Holliday said. Knowing the season is still going on, the guys in this locker room are still working as crazy as things have been with this guy, hes still a football player and been doing it for a long time.
Haynesworth has been following the Redskins, who are 1-2 in his absence.
Hes watching, hes listening, Holliday said. He misses the fellowship, being out there on Sunday. I know he still wants to play football. He said hes going to work his butt off and well see what happens.
