In a somewhat surprising move -- because the Wizards could be stacked at shooting guard -- the team is reportedly set to sign Roger Mason to a one-year deal. Mason played for the Wizards from 2006-08 and provided an outside shooting threat off the bench.
The 31-year old Mason averaged just 2.6 points a game for the Knicks last season. Mason, who played his high school ball at Our Lady of Good Counsel (Montgomery County, Md.), averaged 9.1 points and shot 39.8 percent from 3-point range for the Wizards in 2007-08.
With shooting guards Nick Young expected to return and Jordan Crawford already in place, Mason will have to fight to make the final roster.
Or as one league source told me, this could be an insurance move just in case some other team offers Nick Young a big contract.
