Before the game, I said here that this was an important game for the Redskins. Losing doesnt end the Redskins season, but it makes it a lot harder for them to do anything. With games coming up against Buffalo and San Francisco, a four-game losing streak is staring them right in the face. You have to be at least somewhat impressed by the play of John Beck. He did have an early fumble and a late interception, so the turnover binge by Redskins quarterbacks continues, as they have 13 through six games now. But the late interception did not matter much, and the early fumble would have been hard to avoid. Beck could win this team some games down the road.Niles Paul made his first two NFL catches, one for 14 yards and then a nice, leaping grab for 11 to convert a third down and set up a Redskins touchdown. The game was essentially over by then, so it will be good to see if Beck continues to target him earlier when the game is still on the line. The defense was not bad in the first half and horrid in the second. It did not look as though they had even made it out of the locker room yet after the Redskins turned the ball over on downs. It took the Panthers a Cam Newton-to-Steve Smith pass and a Newton run to score. And then after the Redskins drove to pull back to within three, on a series when the defense really needed to come up with a three-and-out to maintain the momentum and get the ball back, the Panthers did pretty much whatever they wanted to do, as they rolled 80 yards in 10 plays to regain their 10-point advantage. The injuries are mounting as Santana Moss broken hand and Tim Hightowers injured knee will cost them multiple games if not, in Hightowers case, the season. After a promising start, the Redskins are right back where they were a year ago, at 3-3 after six games. For all of the talk of an improved team and a better attitude, what matters is what shows on the field. The good news is that they are not entirely out of it in a muddled NFC East. But they are going to have to find a way to get things together over the next couple of weeks or they will find themselves in a hole too big to overcome.
