With Tomas Vokoun struggling to find his confidence the Capitals will turn to goaltender Michal Neuvirth tonight when they begin a two-game road trip in Winnipeg.
Like Vokoun, Neuvirth has been shaky in his three most recent starts, allowing 13 goals while going 1-2-0. Overall, Neuvirth is 3-5-1 this season with a 3.73 GAA and .875 save percentage.
By comparison, he was 27-12-4 last season with a 2.45 GAA and .914 save percentage.
The Capitals need one of their two goaltenders to grab hold of the No. 1 job and if Neuvirth can get hot, Hunter likely will ride him as long as he can.
If Neuvirth continues to struggle, the Caps will need to start looking elsewhere fans already are calling for Hershey Bears netminder Braden Holtby -- for a puck stopper.
With a win tonight the Caps can leapfrog the Jets and move into second place in the Southeast Division, five points behind the idle Florida Panthers.
