In their last two games, the Capitals have shown something they had not shown in the weeks leading up to Bruce Boudreaus firing. Theyve pushed back.

It was noticeable in Monday nights 5-4 loss in Florida, when the Caps rallied from a 5-1 deficit and came within a few inches of tying the score late in regulation.

And it was on full display Wednesday night in Ottawa, when the Caps fell behind 2-1 and just kept coming, outscoring the Senators 4-1 in the final period en route to a 5-3 win.

As a group we didnt have any (push back) the week before, right wing Mike Knuble said. Wed find ourselves down going into the third period and just shut down. (We) just played it out like we didnt care.

Maybe they took a long look at the Eastern Conference standings. Maybe they really did need to hear a different voice. But in their past two games under Dale Hunter the Caps have now outscored their opponents 6-1 in the third period.

There was a week to 10 days that we were mailing it in in the third period and not coming up with much effort, Knuble said. We certainly showed a lot more the last two games.
