Having allowed four power-play goals on their last 13 chances, the Capitals spent a lot of time at Monday's practice working on the kill.

Defenseman John Erskine took regular shifts alongside Roman Hamrlik, which could be an indication Erskine is nearing his return from offseason shoulder surgery. Once Erskine is cleared he'll replace Sean Collins as Mike Green's injury replacement.

Forwards Mike Knuble and Joel Ward also saw extensive time on the kill, while Mathieu Perreault centered a top unit with Alex Ovechkin and Troy Brouwer. Knuble, who has two goals and four assists in nine games, appears to be in Bruce Boudreau's doghouse, dropping from the second line to the fourth.
