Pillaged by talk-show callers, ripped by players-turned-analysts and interrogated by the local media in the wake of last weeks 23-0 loss to Buffalo, Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan

Thats life, Shanahan said after practice Thursday. Anytime you get shut out, I expected to get criticized. I expect it from you guys, I expect it from my wife and I expect it from myself. Its embarrassing. Ive never been shutout before and I dont want it to ever happen again.

Yes, even if he was half-joking, Shanahan is even getting feedback at home. So what did Mandy Shanahan have to say?

She was pretty short with me, Kyle kidded.

Seriously, the microscope will continue to be on the head coachs son for as long as the Redskins are stuck in an offensive malaise. The loss to Buffalo was the first time Mike Shanahan had been blanked as an NFL head coach.

Entering Sundays game against San Francisco, the depleted Redskins offense has sunk to 26th in points (16.6 per game) and havent really shown much of a 60-minute pulse in eight weeks.

Injuries are certainly a valid excuse but the Redskins still have to be able to run it, still have to be better on third down and still has to reward their defense when it creates a turnover. Nothing happened against Buffalo.

Youve got to man up and deal with it, Kyle Shanahan said. Really, what matters to me is whether the players believe in me or not thats what it comes down to. If the players have confidence in you and they believe in what theyre doing, then you have a chance.

I believe in these guys and I think they believe in me and we just have to go to work.

That work starts with protecting the quarterback better. John Beck was sacked a franchise-record 10 times and even though he was also at fault, its concerning how much success Buffalo had with a four-man rush.

I can promise you that it wasnt all the lines fault, Kyle Shanahan said. Everybody had their part in it. Anytime you have 10 sacks, the o-line definitely didnt do a great job, but it definitely wasnt all their fault and a lot of people had blame for them.

To start the correction process, Shanahan and the offensive staff put together clips of 25 plays against the Bills where we had some big opportunities and we didnt capitalize on any of them. Thats what led to the shutout.

Considering the Redskins ran 56 plays, thats a big sample size of missed chances.

The next assignment isnt any easier. San Francisco leads the NFL in rush defense and is 10th overall.

We just didnt get it done last week, Kyle Shanahan said. I know Im disappointed and I know they are, too. Weve got to come back and redeem ourselves on Sunday.
