The basketball season appears to be over for Maryland.
The Terps not only didn't receive an NCAA bid -- as was expected -- but they also didn't get a berth in the National Invitation Tournament. In addition, they also won't be going to another consolation tournament, the CBI, according to Patrick Stevens of the Washington Times.
According to tweets by Stevens, Maryland coach Gary Williams said: After 19 wins and beating Penn State, Florida State and Clemson, its disappointing that were not at least in the NIT. ... We played right with Duke for 35 minutes and got a win in the ACC tournament; its kind of surprising we werent selected. We worked very hard to get to where we were with 19 wins this year. Were looking forward to the start of next season."
This will be the first time in 17 straight seasons Maryland will not appear in the postseason. Maryland failed to beat a team in the Top 25, went 7-9 in the ACC and finished the season with four losses in five games.Over the past 17 years under Williams, the Terrapins made 14 appearances in the NCAA tournament and played three times in the NIT. Maryland reached the Final Four in 2001 and won its lone national championship in 2002.
