The hottest ticket in town this week could very well be the coveted golden tickets to view Jon Stewart and the Daily Show tapings at Harman Hall across from the Verizon Center. Another "Invite Only" ticket is giving the Daily Show a run for its money and many Nationals fans were lucky enough to receive them in their mailboxes. To baseball fans, changes to their beloved teams uniforms are nearly as epic as a political comedy show in the days leading up to a rally on the Mall.
That's right Nats fans, the Nationals unis are changing, but specifics are a little sketchy at the moment. Details (or changing details) will be finalized after a cocktail reception and "fashion show" to unveil the new uniform redesigns on November 10th in the Stars and Stripes club at Nationals Park. If you're an eager season ticket holder who already renewed for next season, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. According to the Nationals, they decided to make it an exclusive invitation-only event for their premium clients and to reward fans who have already renewed and paid for their full season ticket packages due to limited space in the Stars & Stripes Club.
The last time the uniforms went through a redesign after the 2008 season, a public event was held at ESPN Zone in DC to unveil the the blue "stars and stripes" alternate home uniform and the script away jerseys. ESPN Zone is no longer an option since it shuttered its doors this past summer, also ending the lunchtime player Q&As.
The "Fashion Show" unveiling the new uniforms following a cocktail reception will include players Ryan Zimmerman, Tyler Clippard, Pudge Rodriguez, Drew Storen (school break?) and Jordan Zimmermann. Newly crowned Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo is also expected to make an appearance.
The event will include a raffle drawing and invited guests will have the opportunity to mingle with the players and purchase the new jerseys before the rest of the world.
The new jerseys will be available for viewing and purchase beginning the following day, Thursday, November 11, exclusively at the Nationals Park Team Store next to the Center Field Plaza. On that day, players will be on hand to sign autographs and meet with fans from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm (one each half hour). No special invitation is necessary, so plan your lunch hours accordingly. Doors will remain open at the team store from 8 am to 6 pm. The Nationals Park team store will be the only place to purchase the new jerseys from November 11 to November 17th. Fans will also receive 15 off the price of a new Nationals jersey when they trade in any MLB jersey at the team store through December 1st.
Team store hours outside of those given above for November 11th for November 22-31 are 10 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday. The store will be closed on Sundays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. (Hours are subject to change)
Did you get a coveted ticket? To the fashion show, I mean, not Jon Stewart. Oh heck, you can tell me if you got into the Daily Show taping too! And have no fear, I will be there with bells on taking photos of the fashion show in case you didn't get an invitation. My sympathies to those of you who purchased official Strasburg jerseys this past season.
