Bruce Boudreau says he has seen teams react many different ways from tough, punishing practices.
Some come out the next game and look like world beaters. Others come out and look more like egg beaters.
Friday night in Newark Boudreau will see how his team reacts to the grueling 90-minute skateathon he put them through on Wednesday, following Tuesday nights home 5-2 loss to the Dallas Stars.
Whether were successful or were not, they all want the same result, Boudreau said. They want to do better than we did (Tuesday night). We had a long video session (Thursday) and they didnt like a lot of the things they saw, and theyre all correctable things.
Most of the Capitals shortcomings came on defensive zone coverage and breakdowns in the faceoff circle, where they were beaten to loose pucks.
Boudreau said its important his team does not underestimate the Devils, who have rebounded from a 4-5-1 start with three straight victories over Philadelphia, Winnipeg and Carolina.
I know were playing a tough team, Boudreau said. The teams that were losing in the first two weeks of the season are now winning, which is what happens in a salary cap world a lot of the time. It shows this league has such great parity.
