JUPITER, Fla. -- Top Washington Nationals prospect Bryce Harper sprained his left ankle running to first base in a minor-league scrimmage Monday morning in Viera, Fla.
The severity of the injury won't be known until Harper undergoes X-rays, though a team spokesman said the 18-year-old outfielder is listed as "day-to-day" for now.
"The little bit of information I got was that he's fine," manager Jim Riggleman said after a 7-2 win over the Cardinals. "Just turned his ankle and he's fine."
Harper was running to first base during a morning intrasquad scrimmage at the Nationals' minor-league complex adjacent to Space Coast Stadium when he hurt himself. He was taken off the field in a cart and was examined by members of the team's training staff.
