With goaltender Tomas Vokoun still ill and unable to participate in todays morning skate, the Capitals are expected to turn to Michal Neuvirth again tonight when the San Jose Sharks visit the Verizon Center (7:30 p.m., NBCSN).

Capitals coach Dale Hunter said he will talk with Vokoun later this afternoon to see if he is well enough to back up Neuvirth. If not, the Caps are likely to recall Braden Holtby from the AHL Hershey Bears.

Neuvirth, 23, is 0-3 in three career starts against the Sharks, allowing 10 goals. This would mark the first time all season Neuvirth has played on successive days. He allowed three goals on 28 shots in Sundays 3-2 loss to the Rangers in New York.

He played solid, Capitals coach Dale Hunter said. He made good saves. I thought both teams gave up a lot of scoring chances. He made big saves and the other guy (Henrik Lundqvist) did, too. He wants to play as many games as he can and if he gets in tonight hell be ready to play.

Along with Vokoun, Caps forwards Brooks Laich and Marcus Johansson and defensemen Dennis Wideman and Roman Hamrlik did not participate in Mondays optional skate.

Right wing Mike Knuble, who has three goals in 53 games this season, remained on the ice after practice and is expected to be a healthy scratch for the third straight game.
