INDIANAPOLISThe Redskins wont have Vince Young to kick around any more. The Eagles backup quarterback, who threw an interception in one pass attempt against Washington this year, apparently will be displaced as the backup by former Bills quarterback Trent Edwards.Young coined the phrase "Dream Team" to describe last year's Eagles, who acquired a number of high-profile free agents. The monicker became a joke as Philly never threatened to make the playoffs and had to win their last four games to finish 8-8.Eagles general manager Howie Roseman hinted that the team would sign Edwards on Thursday while addressing the media here at the NFL Combine. We worked out Trent Edwards, thats something that may come about pretty quickly here, said Roseman.Roseman apparently just wanted the ink on Edwards contract to dry as the signing was announced a short time later.Edwards will compete with Mike Kafka for the backup quarterback job. That is a critical position for the Eagles as starter Mike Vick has started 16 games in a season only once in his nine seasons in the NFL.Update: Reuben Frank of CSNphilly.com is reporting that the team plans to have Kafka be the No. 2 quarterback and that Edwards will be the No. 3. While it seems odd that this has been decided in February without Edwards having had a chance to compete for the job, Frank is certainly well wired and his report certainly has merit. The situation will bear watching as the offseason unfolds.
