Some Redskins fans are strongly in favor of the team bringing in Peyton Manning to play quarterback, and others are just as fervently opposed to the idea. The thing that makes the debate interesting is that both sides have plenty of material to point to in order to promote their points of view.Do you think Mannings arm is coming along well and is close to functioning up to NFL standards? You have the words of Bill Polian, who was Colts GM for Mannings entire career in Indy, who said reports that Manning was struggling with his throws are simply untrue. Does someone saying Manning is still having significant issues throwing the ball suit your purposes? Then you can turn to Bob Kravitz, the Indianapolis Star Colts columnist who has positively owned the Manning story. He has reported that Manning is not throwing like an NFL quarterback.Even if he can throw, is bringing him to Washington a good idea? Former quarterbacks turned television talking heads weigh in on both sides of the issue. Joe Theismann said the Redskins' signing Manning would be a horrific idea. That comment had many who frequently roll their eyes at what Joey T. says enthusiastically nodding their heads in agreement. Steve Young, on the other hand, said Manning and Mike Shanahan would be a match made in heaven. How about dueling media types? Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com said there is an air of inevitability building around Manning to Washington. Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network said he cant see why Tom Condon Mannings agent would put Peyton Manning in Washington. So, both the pro and con can find plenty of expert opinion. But the only opinions that matter at all are those of Manning and Shanahan. Everything else is just noise.
