Redskins receiver Brandon Banks remained hospitalized Monday after he and a friend were stabbed outside a Washington nightclub on Saturday night.
In a statement released by the team Saturday, Banks agent, James Gould, said Banks sustained surface knife wounds that required stitches. On Monday afternoon, Gould said Banks was still in the hospital for "precautionary reasons" and was expected to get out within 24 hours. Gould confirmed that Banks unnamed friend was critically wounded and underwent surgery.
Banks and his friend are not under investigation.
Brandon was not involved in any wrongdoing and was not implicated in any way, Gould said.
The incident happened shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday at The Park, a nightclub located near the intersection of 14th and I Streets in the District.
Police would not name the second victim or the suspect, but they and Gould provided some information about the incident: The suspect did not know Banks or his friend, the stabbing occurred outside the nightclub, investigators have spoken to one of the victims (Banks) and citizens interrupted the stabbing.
One person was detained by citizens and an investigation at the scene revealed that he was the perpetrator of the offense and he was placed under arrest, D.C. Police Lt. Robert Alder said.
The suspect is expected to be charged with assault with intent to kill.
As of 7 p.m. Saturday, the Redskins had refrained from commenting on the stabbing, only releasing Goulds statement on his behalf.
A frequent user of Twitter, Banks made his last post at 11:30 p.m. Friday, saying he was going to Bar 7 in the District, but his account had been shut down by Saturday night.
Banks completed his rookie season with the Redskins last month, making the team as an undrafted free agent and taking over the punt and eventually kick returning duties.
