The Redskins have been doing a better job of building through the draft lately but they have a long way to go to catch the Super Bowl teams in that department.Comparing the players and starters for the Redskins last game of the season to the Giants and Patriots 53-man rosters and anticipated starters for Super Bowl XLVI, the teams playing for the Lombardi Trophy have more of a home-grown flavor. The Redskins acquired 30 of their players from other teams while the Giants and Patriot imported 16 and 19 from elsewhere, respectively. The Redskins had 11 of their 12 2011 draft picks on the roster at one time or another during the season but that didnt make up for years of eschewing the draft as a prime method of team building. New York drafted 25 of its players and New England drafted 24.Washington also noticeably lags behind when it comes to finding undrafted free agents who can make the team. The Redskins have just five on their roster while the Giants uncovered 12 hidden gems after the draft and the Patriots 10.If you look at the breakdown below, youll see that the Giants and Patriots arent doing an exceptional job in finding players in the draft and recruiting and developing undrafted players. The breakdowns on those teams are close to the league averages. The Redskins, on the other hand, deviate from the norm in favor of getting players from other teams. The Redskins picture here may be slightly skewed by exclusion of the nine players on injured reserve and the two on the suspended list. Seven of those players were drafted. But New York has 14 players on IR and the Patriots have eight, so there are distortions all the way around. The Redskins appear to be headed in the right direction when it comes to acquiring and developing home grown talent but they still have a ways to go.Redskins 2010 final game 53-man roster:S = StarterDraftedTerrence AustinKevin BarnesErik CookReed DoughtyS DeJon GomesS Roy HeluMaurice HurtS Rob JacksonRyan KerriganSRocky McIntoshChris NeildBrian OrakpoSNiles PaulPerry RileySAldrick RobinsonEvan RoysterSBrandyn ThompsonMarkus White7 startersUndrafted Brandon BanksLogan PaulsenS Willie SmithS Byron WestbrookDarrel YoungS 3 startersAcquired (FATradeother)Lorenzo Alexander David AndersonAnthony ArmstrongOshiomogho AtogweKentwan BalmerJohn BeckStephen BowenS Jammal BrownAdam CarrikerSChris ChesterSBarry CofieldSLondon FletcherSKeyaron FoxJabar GaffneySGraham GanoRex GrossmanSDeAngelo HallSSean LocklearWill MontgomerySSantana MossSRob MyersTyler PolumbusSRichard QuinnSav RoccaDarrion ScottMike SellersDonte StallworthNick SundbergJosh WilsonSDoug Worthington12 startersRedskins 9 players on IR, 2 suspended (7 drafted)
