Strong safety LaRon Landry was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list Monday night because of an inflamed Achilles tendon.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan made the announcement during his press conference.

Landry had missed the previous four games with the injury, derailing his best season with the Redskins and ending his hopes of playing in his first Pro Bowl.

Weve talked about him throughout the year and I thought the first half of the season, he would be MVP with the way he was playing, Shanahan said. Hopefully he can get well and get ready to go for next season.

Landry finishes the season with 101 tackles, one sack, one interception and 11 pass break-ups. He is the first Week 1 defensive player to be placed on injured reserve.

Late last week, defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said injured reserve was going to be a consideration for Landry if he couldnt face Tampa Bay. Landry went through a limited practice Friday but hasnt done a full practice since being shut down following the Week 10 loss to Philadelphia.

Reed Doughty will continue to start alongside Kareem Moore at the safety positions.
