The NFL off-season has begun, with 213 days to go until the next football game that counts. For the Redskins and 20 other NFL teams, it started five weeks ago but now that the Super Bowl is over, things will start happening fast.Starting today, teams can release players who are still under contract for 2012. Between now and the start of free agency on March 13, every team must get under the salary cap. The exact amount of the cap has yet to be announced but that will come in the next few weeks. The Redskins appear to be comfortably under the cap (will discuss specifics later this week) but may want to shed some players who dont fit in with the plan to save some cash.Dont look for the Redskins to do anything real soon as they are a bit behind on their evaluations after taking a week to coach at the Senior Bowl. However, reports earlier this week indicated that a meeting between Peyton Manning and Jim Irsay that could lead to the quarterbacks release could happen sooner rather than later. That will force some early decisions to be made if, as reported, the Redskins are interested in signing the Colts quarterback. So, take a breather if youd like but dont stop paying attention. Things will start happening fast.
