VIERA, Fla. -- The Washington Nationals claimed left-handed reliever Lee Hyde off waivers from the Atlanta Braves, a move that coincided with the club placing Stephen Strasburg on the 60-day disabled list.
Hyde, 26, went 4-6 with a 3.41 ERA and eight saves in 51 combined appearances between the Braves' Class AA and AAA affiliates last season. Upon joining the Nationals, he was immediately optioned to Class AAA Syracuse.
Strasburg, who underwent Tommy John surgery last fall, will be eligible to come off the 60-day DL on May 30 but he's not expected to return to the majors until September at the earliest.
