Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 12:48 p.m.By Ivan CarterCSNwashington.com contributorAs many of you know, nobody has been as hard on LeTravel James as I have been but I'm gonna give the so-called King a pass on this one. For starters, the interviewer, CNN's Soledad O'Brien, totally baited LeBron and his buddy with the line of questioning. LeBron answered a specific question as to whether race played a role (key word: role) in the backlash that came against him after he chose to kick his hometown in the stomach on live national TV and carpetbag his way to Miami so he could ride D-Wade's coattails to a title. (OK, that last part was my wording so sue me).LeBron's answer was simple: "I think so, at times," James replied. "It's always, you know, a factor."Uh oh, LBJ, you forget MJ's rule: "Republicans buy shoes too." Race is a dangerous topic. Tends to make people mad. People who want to be billionaires, as you do,tend to avoid it...Two thoughts here: 1). I'm pretty sure that some of the anger - and man, was there a lot of it - shot LeBron's way after his "decision" included some racial invective. Heck, I'd guarantee it. 2) That doesn't mean that ALL of the backlash was racially motivated. Big, big difference. It's like me saying: "Some of the emails we get from angry viewers has ethnic or racial tone and ALL of it does... Two VERY different things. Got it? Anyway, I still think LeBron pulled a punk move by doing what he did the way he did it. Free agency was his right. Again: he had every right to leave Cleveland. But the way he handled it was low class. That's justmy opinion and I'm pretty sure it wasn't racially motivated...unless I've having a Dave Chapelle moment...Remember Clayton Bigsby? What an episode. I miss that show.....-While I'm on the subject: I'm pretty sure there are more NBA teams than the Heat and Lakers but judging by the training camp coverage I've seen so far, one wouldn't know it....-Hey, it's hockey season! I caught a glimpse of the Caps the other night in a fake tilt against the B's and saw: Ovie playing, Ovie get hit and newcomer D.J. King get in a good fight...Fun times. Good to see a little muscle come back to the Cappies....Oh, what do I know, right? (See video of former Cap Alan May pounding me into the ice) Anway, check this out. Damien Cox is one of the best puck writers in the business but he sure is gonna touch a nerve with that one...Caps fans, heck, hockey fans tend to be the most passionate and, shall I say, touchy, fans around....Let me know what you think... And thanks Steinberg. You da man....-We've got a pretty darn goodWashington Pot Livelined up for you today. Ric "Doc" Walker will be in the house along with my man Mike Wise of Post to talk Redskins-Eagles. You know Doc is going to bring it and Mike, well, you know he's bringing something....just not entirely sure what. The questions of the day: can the Skins hang with the Eagles and can the Skins defense do something about Michael Vick , who is playing like a cross between Joe Montana and Fran Tarkenton right now. Also today, those of you who like to drop a little money on the NFL can get some great advice from my man Brandon Lang who will be in for his weekly segment. Of course you can also catch some good stuff at Brandon Lang's website.Have a great, dry, afternoon and please watch the show.....
