Tomas Vokoun stopped trying to figure out head coaches years ago.

After 14 years in the NHL hes come to realize that predicting goaltending rotations is a futile exercise.

But when the Capitals returned from their five-day NHL All-Star break, Vokoun thought backup Michal Neuvirth would get the start in Tampa and hed get the start against his former Panthers teammates.

I didnt know, he said. I thought maybe it would be vice-versa. But Dale makes those decisions and whatever he tells me Im going to roll with it.

He talked to me after the (4-3 overtime loss in Tampa). He said I played good and Michals going to play against Florida and thats it. Im ready to play.

Vokoun is 20-12-1 this season with a 2.60 GAA and .915 save percentage. Last season in Florida he went 22-28-5 with a 2.55 GAA and .922 save percentage. With the Caps playing five more back-to-back games this season including this weekends set against the Canadiens (2 p.m. today) and Bruins (12:30 p.m. Sunday) -- Vokoun was asked how he feels about playing on consecutive days.

I havent played this year nearly as much as Ive played in previous years, he said. If they tell me Im playing, Im playing. If they tell me Im not playing, Im not playing. If it was up to me Id play every game. But they make the decisions for me.
