Wizards coach Flip Saunders just confirmed that rookie guard John Wall's sprained left foot will keep him out of tonight's game versus Toronto at Verizon Center. "He won't play tonight and we don't know about tomorrow," Saunders said before this morning's shoot around.
This is a big blow for a team that is struggling out of the gate with a 2-6 record and won't have their best player for at least the Toronto game. Wall is averaging 18 points and 9 assists a game and is clearly the team's go to guy but he won't be there this evening and who knows about the Celtics game tomorrow night in Boston.
Saunders also said that backup forward Yi Jianlian would also not play tonight due to a bone bruise and hyper-extended right knee. Both Wall and Yi suffered the injuries in the loss at Chicago Saturday night. "No John, no Yi so you are losing two of your top six guys you know but you still have young players and opportunities for them to develop," Saunders said.
Wall arrived at Verizon Center this morning in a walking boot solely for precautionary measures and he still listed as day-to-day. With no Wall in the lineup, Gilbert Arenas gets the nod in the back court with Kirk Hinrich. Arenas perhaps is rounding into some form as he scored 30 points in the Bulls loss. "When you have guys like Gil and Kirk its nice that either one of them can take over the offense," Saunders said.
