Right wing Alex Semin was scratched for a second straight game Monday night, fueling rumors that his days in Washington may be numbered.
On Saturday there were reports that Semin was suffering from a shoulder injury. But with Semin practicing with the team the past several days, coach Dale Hunter later acknowledged he was a healthy scratch.
Semin makes 6.7 million a season, which makes him almost impossible to trade. There had been speculation the Capitals might send him and a first-round pick to the Anaheim Ducks for right wing Bobby Ryan, but now that Bruce Boudreau is in Anaheim there's little chace of that happening.
The Capitals could attempt to place Semin on waivers and, if he clears, send him to the AHL Hershey Bears, where his salary would not count against the salary cap.
