A recap of the Washington Wizards 107-93 loss to the New York Knicks:
Why the Knicks won:
With both Carmelo Anthony (groin pull) and Amare Stoudemire (bereavement) out of the lineup the Knicks got great effort from their role players. Tyson Chandler averages only 11 points per game but he finished with 25. Steve Novak set his season high with 19 points off the bench. And then there was Jeremy Lin
This is normally a section where Ill look into what the Wizards did right on any given night. But this time I have to give credit where credit is due. Jeremy Lin was as good as advertised. The Knicks starting point guard came in with plenty of hype after averaging 26 points and 7.5 assists in his last two games. He was easily the most popular player on the floor and he didnt disappoint the crowd scoring 23 points. The former Harvard grad finished with 10 assists, just two shy of the Wizards total of 12.
This was a game in which the Wizards got little from their shooting guards. Nick Young and Jordan Crawford combined to miss 11 of their first 14 shots. New York isnt the greatest defensive team but they were able to force Young and Crawford into a lot of contested jump shots. Equally as bad was the Wizards pick and roll defense. They were unable to keep Lin out of the lane.
The Knicks were aggressive in attacking the basket and that resulted in 33 free throw attempts. They made 26 of those while the Wizards attempted just 19.
On Friday the Wizards will welcome LeBron James and the Miami Heat to Verizon Center. Following that game Washington will head on the road for four straight games.
