Former Maryland athletic director Debbie Yow said Terps basketball coach Gary Williams tried to "sabotage" her search for a coach at North Carolina State, the Terrapin Trail blog reports.
During Tuesday's news conference to introduce Mark Gottfried as the Wolfpack's new basketball coach, Yow -- who left Maryland to become N.C. State AD last year -- told reporters: "I don't have a reputation across all men's basketball as being difficult to work with. I have a reputation of not getting along with Gary Williams, who tried to sabotage the search. Come on. We all know that. So whatever. It's Gary Williams doing his thing, so whatever."
Terrapin Trail, a blog produced by the Maryland student newspaper, The Diamondback, reported Yow was responding to questions posed to Gottfried about the AD.
Williams issued this statement, as reported by The Washington Times: "I haven't talked to anyone, coach or athletic director, connected to the N.C. State search. I don't have any interest in the N.C. State search, since I'm coaching at Maryland and working hard to run our program. Anyone who says I've had contact with a prospective coach or athletic director regarding this search isn't being truthful."
