Rain has slightly muddied the water, but hydrilla is clearing it! Grab your topwater lures!
Get out early, wear sunscreen and drink a lot of water. NBC Ch. 4 meteorologist "Weather Kim" Martucci says, “It's going to be the hottest week of the summer. Mid 90s with overnight lows in the mid 70s. Sunshine to start with Tuesday bringing a chance of thunderstorms, mostly sunny the rest of the week.”
The early morning topwater bite should be great! Low tides start the
day keeping baits close to fish probably lasting into the afternoon.
Try Lucky Craft G-Splash poppers and walking Gunfish lures. Use shad patterns unless there’s cloud cover. For line GAMMA Copoly 12-pound test allows long casts and enough strength to pull fish out cover.
Also either over grass, pads, or in open water near cover, Mann's Hollow Super frogs in white or black will produce, but must be tossed on GAMMA 60 pound test Torque Braid and a stiff frog rod.
Long casts with all topwaters are necessary. Vary speed. Faster with clear water, slower with stain.
When these baits slow down try a Mann's Waker on braid or a Mann's Baby 1-Minus on 12-pound test GAMMA Edge Fluorocarbon. Make sure hooks are sharp and use a heavier cranking rod to set the hook and to horse fish out of cover. Changing hooks to KVD, Mustad Short Shank Triple Grips allow upsizing both hooks.
Always keep a stick worm tied on with a 3/0 Mustad Mega Bite hook. I like 12-14 pound Edge here too. As tides rise, try pitching docks with MIZMO 3 inch Swamp Monsters with 3/0 Mustad Mega Bite hooks and a MIZMO tube with a Mustad 3/0 tube hook.
