Fishy Week Ahead!
Last week was one of the best so far this season. Water temps reached and exceeded 60 degrees and fish were chasing lures. Expect the fishing
action to continue this week!
Warmer water has the food chain active. Look for crawfish to become a
big part of the menu, activating feeding and fish metabolism even
further. NBC Ch. 4 meteorologist "Weather Kim" Martucci says, “Highs all week under dry skies near 70 with winds out of the South. Mid week, close to 80 before cooling off into the 60s with a chance of thunderstorms on Friday and rain on Saturday.”
Crank Mann's Baby X around wood cover, targeting shoreline cover at
higher tides. Also twitch Lucky Craft Pointer 78 baits in Baby Bass in clearer water. For these baits, use GAMMA Copoly line and make repeated casts to cover. Power Poles can maintain position for full coverage. As tides fall, seek hard bottom locations...usually areas with snails...and use lipless crankbaits like Lucky Craft LV 500 in craw patterns in stained water or with cloudy skies. Otherwise, try shad patterns.
In areas with grass, swimming Mann's Stone Jigs with a HardNose Craw
and chatter jigs in black/blue patterns have been working. Also use the
thinner Lucky Craft LVR D-7 on 12-pound test GAMMA Edge fluorocarbon.
Around docks, use a Shaky head with a Mann's HardNose finesse worm on an 1/8-ounce head. Punisher hair jigs and Mizmo tubes with an insert
head skipped under docks and worked slowly will work. If fish are more
active, hitting baits on the drop, try bigger jigs here too! Soak all
baits in Jacks Juice Crawfish Spray.
In choppy water or with a bit of stain or cloud cover, try a 1/4 ounce
Mann's Classic spinnerbait around shallow cover.
