The Tides of March!
Windy conditions and a full moon moved water out of the river last week! Look for debris on the Potomac this week!
Water temperatures are slowly rising with 45-50 degree water this week. NBC Ch. 4 meteorologist "Weather Kim" Martucci says, “A cold start to the week with a storm on Monday as temperatures are chilly with highs only on the mid 30s. Warming with a chance of rain mid week before getting into the 50s on Thursday and low 60s on Friday. Warmer weekend ahead with more showers.”
Fishing has been tough with few fish being caught in local tournaments. Fish all presentations very slowly! Start with creek mouths and areas close to deeper water. Punisher Hair jigs with a Mizmo 3 inch Swamp monsters will work on 6-pound test Copoly. Watch line closely and “feel” for fish!
Finding grass is key now to find fish that have moved into shallow flats. Using Lucky Craft LV 500 lipless crankbaits on 12 pound test GAMMA Edge fluorocarbon, make long casts to feel for grass and to dredge gravel bottoms near creek mouth points.
Another good bait now is a Mizmo grub on a 1/4-ounce ball head jig. Cast and work slowly in areas close to deeper water on 6 pound test Copoly line.
Chartreuse on sunny days, green pumpkin varieties on cloudy days.
Silver Buddy lures are still pulling fish off drops and ditches. I like 12 pound test Edge. Dragging the bait will be effective too! Short burps and allowing the bait to sit until fish are found. Follow up with Stingray grubs, drop shot and Carolina rigs. Soak soft plastics in garlic Jack's Juice.
With temps into the 45 degree range and higher, try slow rolling spinnerbaits.
