Cornerback Brandon Browner is still a free agent and he is still in demand.
After reports that the former Seahawk had signed with the Patriots proved to be erroneous (drawing a sharp rebuke from Browner’s agent), Browner will visit the Redskins today before heading to New Orleans, according to Adam Schefter. Meanwhile, the agent will be on the phone conducting negotiations with the Patriots and Raiders.
Contract negotiations are complex. As part of a compromise after an appeal of his indefinite suspension due to violating the NFL’s PED policy, Browner will be suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season and then will be fined his game checks for the second quarter of the season. Since another violation would almost certainly result in a lengthy suspension, teams are going to want some protection built into the contract so that their financial exposure if something goes wrong is limited.
