The Redskins won’t have to face a longtime nemesis when they face the Dallas Cowboys this year.
According to multiple reports, the Cowboys have released defensive end DeMarcus Ware. It was a matter of money, with the Cowboys pressed up against the salary cap and Ware with a $12.75 million salary due for 2014, owner Jerry Jones didn’t think he had a choice. After weeks of back and forth talk on redoing his contract (a.k.a. Ware taking a pay cut), they released him just as free agency started at 4:00.
Ware has been a mainstay on the Dallas defense since he was drafted in the first round in 2005. He has seven Pro Bowls to his credit and he was first-team All-Pro four times. Ware has posted 117 career sacks, leading the NFL twice in the process.
Ware has 11 sacks in 16 career games against the Redskins.
