The Redskins’ longest tenured coach is leaving.
Dan Hellie of NBC-4 reported via Twitter that special teams coach Danny Smith is leaving the Redskins to take the same job with the Pittsburgh Steeers.
Smith is a native of Pittsburgh and it has been known in league circles that the Steelers have wanted Smith for quite some time.
It was reported earlier this week that the Steelers had received permission to talk to Smith. They had a vacancy because their special teams coach Amos Jones left last weekend to take the same job with the Cardinals.
The Redskins now have two coaching vacancies. Wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard left earlier this month to take the same job with the Bills.
The Redskins were reached about Smith's departure but a spokesman had no comment.
