Hall comes to Meriweather's defense
Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall didn’t like the two-game suspension handed to his teammate Brandon Meriweather.
But D-Hall really didn’t like the comments made by Martellus Bennett and Brandon Marshall, the two players Meriweather struck helmet-to-helmet in Sunday’s game.
Asked about Marshall saying Meriweather should “get suspended or taken out of the game completely,” Hall fired back on Wednesday.
“That’s just something you don’t do,” Hall said. “At the end of the day, nobody is out there trying to purposely hurt somebody else. Brandon Marshall and Brandon Meriweather grew up together. They have a relationship beyond football. I’m pretty sure BMarsh, if he had to think about what he said, he probably wouldn’t have said it that way.”
But Hall really took exception to Bennett’s comments. In a sports radio interview on Monday, Bennett said of Meriweather, “I still want to punch him in the face.”
“Martellus, I don’t know him personally,” Hall said. “But he had a chance to say whatever he wanted to during the game, after the game, and the kid didn’t open his mouth. No respect for a guy who wants take a shot after the fact. If you want to take a shot, take a shot when you’re right there. No respect for a guy like that.”
Meriweather did not speak to reporters during the open locker room period but there could be news regarding his suspension later Wednesday. He’s appealing the suspension and his expedited hearing is scheduled to be heard, a league source said Tuesday.
“I thought it was a little harsh,” Hall said of Meriweather’s suspension. “I don’t like throwing other players under the bus, but there’s definitely been some other players out there who have made some pretty outrageous hits and plays and haven’t been suspended. He’ll appeal it and hopefully he can get him back.”
